In Calheta, there are some of the best known spots for surfing: Jardim do Mar, Paul do Mar and Ribeira da Janela.

Named by surfers as European Hawaii, these locations are perfect for winter surfing. September to April are the most consistent months, but the “premium” season is from November to February due to the biggest increase, but also because it is when the offshore wind appears most.
